I woke up this early morning at 4am just like I would every year on Christmas as a little girl. My baby brother and I would wake the other up and then sit on the couch… with the glow of the tree lights illuminating the room… looking in amazement at all the presents… whispering to each other our guesses of what was inside the pretty wrapping… because it was too early to wake our parents so we could open them!!!
Once it reached a decent hour of 5:30 or 6am (LOL!) we were allowed to grab our stockings and run into wake Mom and Dad. Within an instant of bolting into their room and settling in the center of their big bed, the two of us were rummaging through our tiny gifts, wrapping paper flying all over the room, while our parents watched sleepily, sipping their coffee. I can’t wait to carry on the “opening stockings in Mommy and Daddy’s bed” tradition with my family one day. I truly cherish little family moments like these!!
Later this afternoon, I will be on the road to my Mom’s house to celebrate. No matter what age I am, when I walk into her house I feel instantly wrapped in love. It is like when you slip into your most comfy pj’s – it just fits and damn it is comforting. Even though it is not the house I grew up in, simply walking through the door releases sooooo much stress, worry, tension, and all that day-to-day CRAP of life!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it feels simply wonderful.
This holiday I am looking forward to my favorite pair of pajamas!! So whether you will be at your parent’s house, staying at your house, or even making the journey to Great Aunt Edna’s house… wishing everyone as much happiness and joy as I feel when I go home! That should keep you warm and last you ALL WINTER LONG **smile**
